025 Add a Little Chaos (Strategically)

We explore how a sprinkle of silliness and the "Yes, and" improv principle can supercharge your brand and business conversations.

Quirky Quiz Time 🥳

What does the "Yes, and" principle help you do in business conversations?

  • A) Build upon existing thoughts and foster collaboration

  • B) Reject unhelpful ideas quickly

  • C) Avoid making any decisions

  • Correct Answer: A) Build upon existing thoughts and foster collaboration - it’s always better to build than to crush 😁

Add a Little Chaos (Strategically)

Dive into the powerful impact of embracing playful professionalism in your branding, marketing, and client conversations using the classic improv technique “Yes, and.” Whether you're navigating the drama of content creation or building trust with your audience, we explore how a dash of humour and a solid strategy can make your personal brand unforgettable.

Improv isn’t just for theatre kids. Using “Yes, and” in your business can completely shift how you collaborate with clients, brainstorm ideas, and create engaging content. Instead of shutting ideas down (and faces with them), this method helps you build on what’s already there, keeping creativity flowing and clients feeling heard.

The episode stresses that letting your freak flag fly—even just a little—can help your brand stand out. You don’t need to be the next stand-up star, but adding puns, playful language, or even a blooper reel shows your audience you’re a human, not a sales robot. And trust me, humans buy from humans, not perfectly polished perfection.

If you’ve been feeling stuck in a beige branding loop, this is your sign to shake things up. Try the “Yes, and” approach in your next meeting or social post and see how it opens doors. And if you want help bringing more play into your personal brand, reach out and work with Zoë Wood of the Video Confidence Coach—we’ll help you build a brand that’s both powerful and a bit fun.

Thank you for all your comments

    at any given time

and nobody knows what it's doing

    all in itself

    because unfortunately it's a beast

    is going to do

based entirely on what the algorithm

    of creating content or videos

that you don't dictate your actions

    I highly recommend

    at any different time

    favours a lot of things

    and the algorithm

because people are willing to support other people

and in a nice way of course

    on what you can improve

maybe just to get some feedback

to other groups that you're a part of

    or you share the video

    like us here

    with the community

make sure that you share it

and then once you put that video out there

before you put anything out there

maybe you'll film a different couple of videos

    practice a couple of times

    then do it

about having your face out there

    and you're confident

    onto camera

so if you are able to get your face

    but I digress

    wants us to do

or whatever the social media overlords

    and the actions

    is based on our actions

    and especially the algorithm

    and on social media that

    and what they're about

and we like to see what they look like

we like to see other faces

because humans like to connect with faces

and yes that is definitely true

    on many socials favours faces

So you've heard that the algorithm

    the Unboring Your Brand podcast

    on the next episode of

but I look forward to seeing you

at the end of the day

of course it's entirely up to your confidence

    and see what magic unfolds

you can always try it with your barista

    and if you want to

    to work together

but you can definitely build upon things

going with the agreeing side of things

    now of course that is

    and yes and

    well we can have both

    well I feel like tacos

    so I feel like sushi

    say I feel like this

maybe thinking about what's for dinner

and maybe if even in your personal life

    as opposed to yes but

    where you'd use yes and

    try a brainstorm

    So in your next meeting

    not tear it down.

you are trying to build it

be it a solution to their problem

    be it a life

    be it a conversation

you are trying to build something together

when you're working with your friends

when you're working with your family

because when you are working with your clients

    instead of building against them

    and building with people

    staying curious

    it means staying open

let me do that one again though

    except

    and building with people

    staying curious

    It means staying open

as opposed to a negative way.

but you're doing it in an additive way

    or they didn't realise

that maybe they did not consider

to make sure that you cover those bases

but you can also use that yes and

doesn't necessarily mean that you agree

and just because you're building upon it

what the foundation that they've built upon

    you're acknowledging what they've said

it's almost like saying yes but

that just because you're saying yes and

    I want to stress

    agreeing with everything

    Yes anding doesn't mean

just imagine you said something there.

If you didn't say anything there

    yes very good.

So you need to yes and

you need to do it anyway.

    and to do that

and hear what you have to say

    people need to understand

because people need to hear your message

However you intend to market yourself

    in your business.

    in your personal brand

    putting yourself out there

    when it comes to

And sometimes that's just what happens

and I'm going to do it anyway.

    I'm going to receive

    or what backlash

    how this will turn out

    Yes I'm worried about

and I'm going to do it anyway.

    Yes I might be nervous

    being crippled by self-doubt.

    who find themselves

    and my potential clients

    for those of my clients

So it is also especially useful

    that's not there.

    you can't build on something

    something that is already pre-existing

    You can build upon

    that is completely dismissed.

    is still better than something

    that isn't perfect

you can even an even better idea

    as I've just discussed

    and again build upon

    to open up the conversation

    but yes and allows you

    yes but

    and just smacking you down

    hi I'm using my hand

    the podcast on that YouTube

    for those who aren't watching

    yes but

    as opposed to yes but

    because you are yes anding

    and build upon

    and then formulate a response

    after someone has said something

you are allowed to take a pause

    before responding

You can start by actually listening

    my sincere apologies.

so if I hit the microphone

I'm using my hands a lot today

    and professional life?

    in both business

for saying yes anding like a pro

So what are my go-to tips

    can give you.

    that life and the universe

    to the possibilities

    a little bit more open

and also allow you to be

will stop killing those harsh vibes

    in your personal life

    in your regular speak

    but building that momentum

    all of the time

we aren't able to do this

    and of course

definitely changes that style for you

    to the and factor

    from the but factor

    because moving away

    where I'm coming from that

    but you can understand

    I don't know if that's possible

    will love you more

    or family member

    or your loved one

    maybe your partner

    and hopefully

    you'll become a better communicator

    So in that

    they've already laid.

    build upon that foundation

to make sure that you're able to

and already brought to the table

    that they've already said

    you're incorporating the stuff

because when you are yes anding

and pretend like none of us have done that

I'm gonna nod in my head

    so you can start speaking.

    to stop speaking

that you're not just waiting for them

because you're trying to make sure

    well just full stop

    and a better communicator

and makes you a better listener

for you in your personal life

what yes anding can possibly do

    you're allowed to explore

    two or three things together

    or you're allowed to choose

    you're allowed to make dinner

    you're an adult

    to choosing dinner

or when it even has come time

    with family, friends, flatmates

    that you may be having

    or with any dramas

    This also helps with relationships

    and your professional life.

    with both your personal

    as you can imagine

and especially because it's all connected

So when it comes to yes anding

It's almost like I'm human too.

    outside of just business.

    being able to explore opportunities

    look at me Zoe

you can also use and but

When it comes to your personal life too

    especially in creative fields.

    automatically shooting their ideas down

    because we're not

but also allow people to trust us more

    to bring people on board

because yes we are yes anding

    with your budget

here is what we can achieve

out of what we talked about

here is what we can do

    but in a yes and

not in a yes but way

    there I did again

    but not in a

    lay out the facts

    and then be able to

    exploration and more innovation

    and invites the expansion

You're allowed to say yes and

but they don't have the budget for it.

where they're asking for the world

or for example you're in something

    and fast industry

if you are in a very hard

    Now say for example

or the way that you talk to clients.

within the way that you speak

    to start recognizing that

    and I implore you

    Now I ask you

    back to the real world.

because you need to bring things

You say yes, yes, yes but

    in people's vocabulary.

    Now of course this comes

    when you are saying but.

That is very much what it feels like

    I'm gonna leave.

    no thank you ma'am

I agree with you up and to a point bam

    There is a very clear

    I agree with you.

    There is a very clear

and slapping you across the face.

    just someone coming

    like in a nice suit

    in a polite outfit

it very much sounds like a rejection

    But with that

mainly just because I want to say but.

now I'm putting emphasis on that but there

    with yes, but

    Now as you can imagine

    Yes, but.

    and yes but.

    between yes anding

So let's go through the big differences

    in your brand.

all the things that you talk about

especially when it comes to the way

and also stop your railroad thinking

    may be useful for you

    to explore the other options

using the yes and in principle

in the past regarding your brand

and things that you've already had

    especially concrete ideas

to be able to build upon

using that yes and in principle

    Whenever you're doing social media

every single week, month, week, fortnight.

    you're pulling teeth

    that doesn't feel like

    social media content planning

    is utilizing yes and in

that you can do on the day-to-day

    And another thing

that we can do within your budget.

    to something

but we're going to bring it back

    you know expensive idea

    okay, we can have that

    running them in being like

    then you can start

    and professional that you are

    as the expert

and then once it gets to a reasonable level

    and explore their ideas

but let them explore their thoughts

to rein them in a bit

    and sometimes you might need

is what I like to say

    very big for their budgets

    where some clients can feel

    there's a couple of times

we'll give you a discretion here,

    and especially

when it comes to certain clients

    Now of course,

    immediately pooping the ideas.

or I don't think we can do that

I don't think that will work

    Instead of defaulting to,

    that I had before.

    very much like the example

    where you explore ideas together

    yes and in client calls

    You can also use

    to brain storm.

    of a brainstorming session

The idea is that's the point

    even if it sounds crazy.

    their thoughts and ideas

No one is scared to give

when no one is scared to speak up.

are things like brain storming sessions

yes and for in every day

    and what you can use

    but what you can do

is it may not happen every single day

that example that I just showed you

    now of course,

    And when it comes to,

    and it was all fine.

    we ended up working together

and then in the end of the day,

to be able to get my coin across

    by using yes and

but transform them in a different way

    that she had already poo-pooed

    incorporating the ideas

to the point where I could start

or the idea that she had laid out

    and from that situation

and then I was able to yes

get a bit more of a foundation

    we were able to talk,

    I was able to,

    And then from there,

What do you want to replicate?

    What have you seen?

What are you, what is your idea?

    in how this works.

    So you're clearly not interested

like my first two dot points.

so none of them are getting past

    None of the ideas,

    that something's going on.

    it's very clear

    and I said, okay,

    So I stopped the conversation

okay, I need to stop this.

    of ideas and I'm like,

where I was getting to my last couple

    to the point

    she kept shooting it down

    Every single idea I had,

And she just kept shooting down.

    to their problem.

    showcase the solution

    and what they ultimately

in front of them and their market

to then be able to stand out

    what they don't expect

    But also more importantly,

    and what they expect.

    of what they want

to get a really clear idea

    into her customer target market

    I did a very in-depth research

    that you're targeting.

    Here are the people

    to stand out from them.

Here's what you need to do differently

    industry fellows are doing.

these are what your, you know,

    I'm bringing her, you know,

    bringing her research,

    And especially when I am

    around for you.

    to magically turn things

especially someone who you've just met

    But you can't expect someone,

    and video marketing coach.

and I am a personal branding

    in the marketing space

    Yes, I am a professional

    in your head.

    just because you've had them

    come to reality

I'm not here to make your thoughts

I'm not one of those mesmerists.

    I am not a magician.

    And I'm not a genie.

that I thought an idea in her head.

to see if I could vocalize

that she was more testing me

    And I later found out

    idea in her head.

that she had a very distinct

    But she also know

Thank you so much for that.

    Thank you.

    Awesome. Cool.

    to work with me.

    She knew that she wanted

    and pitching ideas.

    is we were brainstorming

and essentially what we were doing

onto her industry and target market

And I had done a lot of research

    all that good stuff.

I traveled all the way there,

    have a sit-down meeting.

    before we agreed to say

of who I was talking with

where I got a better idea

    I did my 15-minute conversations

    and these were before

Now, this was before I did my discovery forms

and we were having a sit-down meeting.

for say 10 to 15 minutes previous to this

And we'd talked maybe once or twice

Yes, a couple of years ago now.

    couple of years ago now.

I was working with a woman

    So, say for example,

    I highly recommend.

    to shut off ideas immediately,

    who are very quick

    especially for people

being able to use this yes anding,

    especially in creative fields,

And if you work with clients quite heavily,

    to keep showing up creatively.

    gives them the confidence

or even in just like the people around you

and your team, if you have one,

    this builds confidence in yourself

So, when it comes to yes anding,

that have to do with business terms.

    or other things

which will then lead into money

    or generate leads,

    to help you generate money

    at a moment's notice

that you can start running with

easy, and quick for you to make

which is something that is cheap,

    a minimum viable product,

as I like to call it,

give you an idea or an MVP,

And even if it's not fully baked,

allows you to expand your thoughts.

    using the yes and principle

    If you're feeling stuck,

or even just an area in your business.

    like marketing query or problem

    about some sort of

you're having a conversation with yourself

Even if you're just doing it with yourself,

    with whoever you're talking with.

    It encourages collaboration

Yes, anding stops idea-killing in its tracks.

Make sure you have your ABN registered.

    Thank you, thank you.

    So, welcome on board.

at the end of the day.

but you're also a business owner

and you may be a contractor,

    You are a business owner

or your time or your hours for money.

    your knowledge, or your work

because you are giving your experience,

    you are a business owner

At the end of the day,

I'm talking to my personal brand builders.

    Now, of course,

a game changer in a business?

    So, why is yes anding

so you can get back to the goal at hand.

    and loop it back around

    you can yes and it

it's not getting to where I want,

    and you think,

And, you know, if you're given enough time

just to see where the situation goes.

you're allowed to use the yes and approach

    within your business,

or the problem that you're experiencing

    that you're having

the exact solution to the situation

    and may not seem like

Even the ones that are a bit weird

It keeps conversations open, playful, and productive.

    to help you out.

or anyone that you're bringing into your team

    and with any contractors

    but also with staff

    not just with potential clients

    not just with your clients,

    This helps conversations

    at the first opportunity.

    and not just stomped out

need to be fostered and grown upon

    it means that building ideas

    But in business,

but cold calling is not my thing.

I love you and I thank you

that are definitely not going to work now.

There is things that worked in the past

    and constantly evolving.

    but things are constantly changing

in their particular industry and niche

may have a lot of experience

Yes, some of my older, hey, my older clients

    at every single moment.

to be able to know exactly what to do

a thousand lives as being a business owner

because none of us have lived

by the seat of our pants

We are all just holding on

    We are all faking this.

    have to do with business?

Now, what does improv in the theater world

You say yes and you add on top of it.

    You don't dismiss it outright.

or what you are walking into.

that is happening in front of you

You don't dismiss what is the scenario

    and then add to it.

is you accept what is offered

when it comes to classic improv

    and the one rule

or another couple of other people

    usually with another person

    a scene, a conversation,

    where you improvish, improvish, improvationalize

So what improv is, is theater exercises

So just yes and in italics.

So I'm going to tell you what yes and is.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.

but I'm going to bring you in now.

    Congratulations on avoiding this,

I tip my hat off for you.

of being in any sort of improv situation,

So for those who may not have the pleasure

    So, drum roll please.

    I know.

it's time to get friendly with yes and

    or being pitched by you,

and doesn't make people hate meetings

    creates cool stuff

or build a brand that thrives,

But if you want to build a small business

just quicker than a knock off on Friday.

full stops to any sort of ideas or thoughts

there's a lot of stop fast,

    is especially with business conversations,

The best way to put it

Make sure you check that out.

    There is a quiz below.

Now is that a yes or a no?

yeah, nah, yeah, nah, yeah, nah.

    or the Australian

no, but, or yeah, yeah, nah,

    go straight to the

    too many business conversations

    Too many biz,

Welcome to the Unboring Your Brand podcast.

from being a jerk at work.

How improv rules can stop you

then it's okay to make mistakes.

and do not harm anyone else,

    don't harm yourself

that ultimately at the end of the day

is that if you're willing to make mistakes,

and the message that I put out there

    but hopefully the work

    you're going to make pitfalls,

    you're going to make mistakes,

    your business in general,

is because when it comes to marketing

    The reason I ask that

    No.

that what you do now is perfect?

    Can anyone argue

    No.

    was it absolutely perfect?

that you ever did for your business,

    that you ever serviced,

The first thing that you ever created,

    Did you not make mistakes?

    Straight away?

    were you crack hot?

When you first started your business,

    perfect at the gate.

Not everything is going to be

    69, nice!

    to let loose baby!

    To take that opportunity,

of what you decided five years ago.

    than just the rigid confines

it needs to be a little bit looser

that's going to be with you for life,

So if it's going to be something

    a long-term personal brand.

it's gonna be a long life,

    that I work with,

especially for a lot of the people

Why be building a personal brand,

    because that's the real crime.

is that you just don't be boring

    All I ask

    because you are definitely smart.

    so I'm gonna laugh

    and I didn't get it

because you made a funny heart

    I'm gonna be impressed

Even if I don't get it,

    about your area of expertise.

    and consistently tell a joke

by being able to tell a joke

    I'd say you look smarter

    Arguably,

    professional and playful.

    and silly,

    You're allowed to be smart

so then people can tell it's joke.

Maybe you put it in italics

a little joke in there or two.

    you're allowed to have

Even in some of your articles,

however you like to express yourself.

    gifs,

    videos,

    in some of your reels,

    wear a funny hat

Add a pun, add a blooper,

    promoting a brand.

    especially when you're

for the rest of your life,

    and hold that asshole tight

You do not need to be serious

was a never ending job interview.

    like the internet

    Let's stop acting

so far of the Unboring Your Brand podcast.

for joining us for 69 episodes

    Thank you everyone

    why not try it?

    As that opportunity to,

    69 baby, nice!

    Take this episode,

because we're all gonna die someday.

to loosen up a little bit

So he's been waiting for a sign

    that you communicate in general.

    but in the way

    that you market

    not just in the way

    with yourself and your brand,

    You're allowed to have fun

    with a funny gif.

    Good week of work, guys,

saying, thanks for a good week.

at the end of a Friday

    to your fellow staff

    send a Slack message

    you know,

    that you're allowed to,

    and that push

to just give you that momentum

But I want to take this opportunity

    from my experience.

    and in personal branding

    when it comes to marketing

    which happens a lot

    I've been talking very theoretical,

    Now, of course,

and of course, buy from you.

you remind them that you exist

    And in turn will remember

    your audience loves.

it might be the exact thing

it might be the thing that you're,

like that might be a bit too silly,

    And even if you feel

You're allowed to let it show.

like the rest of us, I must say.

a little bit of a weirdo

But you are allowed to be

You don't have to do that.

    or stripped from other properties.

    from other channels

    or funny jokes

    are mainly just reposting memes

    that grow rapidly

    well, a lot of channels

    Like a lot of,

    a mean machine.

    You don't have to be

a little bit of a dork.

    You're allowed to be

    you take that.

    So you take that,

that I would like to give you.

    permission slip

and you'll see a nice big

    You'll find a link

So go down in the description.

I want to give you a permission slip.

    Building a brand.

    Ta-da!

    you can build upon it.

    And if they do work,

you're allowed to put them back.

    And if they don't work,

and you're allowed to try things out.

You're allowed to do fun things

    You're allowed to have fun.

    that just because everything's serious.

    And again, I'm not saying

    that you're doing.

    to bring to the work

    It's just something light

    look unprofessional.

    It's nothing that makes them

    Again, it's nothing small.

    Give yourself a thumbs up.

You have found such and such.

to the end of this report.

    you've gone all the way

    But they say, congratulations,

    the little guy.

    what they've actually called

    I've forgotten

I think Chibi or I think,

I don't exactly know his name,

    that say, hey, you found,

    and some of their reports

    of their email newsletter

that they put at the bottom

but they have a little mascot

    serious lines of work,

    who are in various

    a couple of my clients

    I've been noticing

    treasure hunt, for example.

    or even just a little

    You have a little funny

    out into the world.

    that you are promoting yourself

    that you write anyway

    or where are the articles

in the reports that you provide

    Having some levity

    relating to what you do.

    or a meme, something funny

newsletter, maybe have a little gif

Maybe at the end of your email

    on your social media.

    once a month

    to maybe post a meme

But you're allowed to take the time

    look unprofessional.

    how it may make you

    because you're worried about

    you know, cracking a joke

that may not be, for example,

    And that may in turn,

    with your brand.

You are allowed to have fun

    and run from Boulder.

that you have to steal from

at the top of a pyramid

    It's not a gold obelisk

    thing that's set in stone.

    a little bit, because it's not a

    play with your brand

    But you're allowed to

a laugh out loud funny ha ha.

It doesn't even have to be

a funny joke at the end.

    and then have it be

    to focus your brand on

    whatever you like

30 seconds is going to be about

    do a funny skit.

    hey, I'm just going to

    But even just thinking,

can be scary for the first time.

    trying anything new

    Now, of course,

if you do not want it to be.

It doesn't have to be scary

Doesn't have to be a chore.

    marketing yourself and your business.

    but you're allowed to enjoy

    I know that's a shocker,

    making content.

    You're allowed to have fun

and then completely walk a back.

You can always make a joke

you can always walk a back.

    is rearing its ugly head,

    again, unprofessionalism

    or you're scared to,

    that type of person

    And even if you aren't

    like being smile.

    like being ha ha,

    like cracking a joke,

    some human aspect to it,

    And that usually involves

    is going to stand out.

    So if anything is authentic,

    consistently pushed down our throats.

    and is going to be

    all over the world

There's going to be cropping up

    Unauthenticity.

I think that's the right word.

    in or unauthenticity.

there is going to be more

and actually see if this is the case,

again, we'll only be able to look back

Because as we move into this AI age,

It's about being seen as a human being.

    enough to be trusted.

But it's not even just about being liked

    and buy from you.

they are more likely to trust you

or when you meet them in person,

    through their phones,

they just smile a little bit

and even if they don't laugh,

So if your audience actually laughs,

    especially people who have money.

    and hold people's attention,

    to get people's attention

with the quirkiness of the future

    that unprofessionalism from the past

    are going to be blending

so Gen Z and Gen Alpha,

    and the subsequent generations,

A lot of, say, my generation

so many what-ifs in the future.

    And there's going to be

    a lot longer.

and is going to stay in your mind

is what is going to cloud your judgment

    Being scared to look unprofessional

with, say, a group or a team of people.

who is actively building a brand

    Or you are someone

My watch is telling me I'm running.

    am I running?

or it can be something that,

as in you as a person,

now this can be a personal brand

And when you are growing a brand,

But it's also what makes them invisible.

    comfortability of a professionalism.

in a big thick duna of

    which usually means wrapping themselves

But they want to play it safe,

    of looking unprofessional.

    It's because they're scared

    And I'll tell you why.

or even attempt to make a funny ha-ha joke.

why most people are not childish

So why most people don't do this,

and then some levity to them.

    there is still some humanity

no matter how serious they are,

For most people who I work with,

    Thank you, if you do.

    or watching the podcast.

    for probably when you're listening

So I'm going to tell you now

    Who said that?

    Go away.

    Who said that?

    I didn't say that.

you might be a bit boring.

And if you are serious all the time,

your brand is a reflection of you.

    because again,

bringing more levity into your business,

and move into more ways of levitating,

    so maybe start small

people might get a bit weirded out,

    people might think,

and you start making jokes all of a sudden,

And if you are a very serious brand,

    It's okay.

but you're allowed to make some jokes.

is going to stay out on the internet,

whatever you put out on the internet

    mainly just because, of course,

a little bit away from that,

My recommendation would be to stay

of how you like to joke.

that maybe just be the flavor

may not age well in a couple of years,

    for example,

or make some jokes that maybe,

you could definitely make some laughs

I want to stress that yes,

    Now, of course,

    by making light of something.

and that usually is by having a laugh,

we need to be able to showcase our humanity,

AI copy just being shoved down our throats,

especially when we are working with

    And most of the time,

hope that you are able to fix their problem.

but you're also there to give them

because yes you are there to serve your customer,

at the end of the day,

    realize that it's you

but it also allows you to make people

yes reflects you and your personal brand,

    because your about page

    I don't know, revolutionary,

    you can make that,

you can put in some levity,

but then you can also put in some jokes,

sound like a human wrote it,

So you can make your about page

    that's just about being right.

    without being playful or childish,

that doesn't even have to do anything

    to begin with,

like an actual human wrote it

You can also make it sound

levity is also in your about page.

And the way you can also inject some

    Yay!

    that helps you small business.

    so if that helps you,

    as a small business,

but I'm also there to help you

and making marketing easier for yourself,

    your personal brand

for example mine is about boosting

because of course yes we work and

    or a chuckle,

and give them a little bit of a smile

    line

with some funny things in their subject

    just a nice light-hearted email

so then I would send them an email

    that was a momentous occasion,

something was happening in their life

or something along the lines of

    was soon

    mentioned maybe that their birthday

like for example they would have

but especially when it comes to things

who have only just gotten to know,

    not exactly with new clients

jokes and what they find funny,

so I understand a lot more of their

clients that I'm very familiar with,

Personally, I do this a lot with

that you send to your clients.

you can also do this in the emails

    fortnightly or even monthly,

example you send out weekly or

or just your email list that for

    list

Now this doesn't have to be your email

    in email subject lines.

    or some light-heartedness

You can also put some jokes

    you're doing with your brand.

in regards to everything else that

    but it is also liberty

    yes it is low effort,

or maybe just sharing a meme,

    reminding people of you exist,

very much like other posts that are

    brand or your message,

it's not something that is pushing your

    it's not salesy,

that is not necessarily very serious,

    or once a fortnight,

run regular posts maybe once a week

quirkiness, you can say for example,

little bit of chaos and a little bit of

have prime real estate of having a

are say Instagram catch-ins, you can

    more light-hearted

Some other examples that are slightly

    that you do.

changes people's perspective on the work

and it is something that definitely

is passable, I'm going to tell you now,

    sort of liberty

but during times of sorrow, having any

or who you were doing the work for,

    doing,

diminishing the work that you are

I want to stress, you're not

Now of course, you're not diminishing,

is to have an even light-hearted joke.

    serious tension

and the best way to break that

that they tout is incredibly serious,

the work that they do or the message

    where

I've worked with a couple of people

to lighten up the mood especially, and

    to, who you're pitching to,

bit of fun with whoever you're talking

mention that, you know, you can have a

    end, or

example, maybe having a joke at the

probably the best thing, but say for

maybe not leading with a joke is

    company,

like with an actual proposal to a big

    example, if you're proposing something

not necessarily don't matter, but say for

funny comments or jokes in things that

    you are allowed to put

reflection of you and who you are, and

again, this personal brand is usually a

    depending on your observations, because

    very much

and where you can be playful, it is

When it comes to your personal brand

    nice thing.

and yes, making them laugh too is a

It's a nice thing that I enjoy doing,

    face.

away, and a smile appears in their

they're able to see that just wash

called marketing for their brand, and

behemoth, this tangled web of things

    able to see this

the smile on their faces when they're

I much better and much more enjoy

Yes, I can make them laugh, but

with serving people and helping people.

and I'm like, yeah, I'm okay

And I have looked into it as a career,

    things.

a clown, you should do all these

    you should be

clients say, you should be a comedian,

smile and laugh. Yes, I've had multiple

    people

since I was born, and I enjoy making

I have been a little drama baby

    personality.

because I enjoy that part of my

    exaggerated facial expressions,

I like to use colors, I like to use

    personal brand,

for the sake of my brand, and my

And I know for the sec, I know for

    without turning into a clown.

You're allowed to read the room

    and still know your stuff.

    make a joke,

You are still allowed to chuckle and

But you are allowed to be lighthearted.

    brand.

wholehearted too, it's definitely in your

day and age, but if it does,

    still works in today's

Maybe, who knows, I don't know if that

are run a practical joke store.

you sell whoopee cushions, or like you

    Unless that again is your,

chair when they first sit in.

putting a whoopee cushion under their

    you're not going to be

unless of course they started it. Or

you're not exactly cracking poo jokes,

when you're pitching to a client,

    childish and unprofessional. Now,

is that there is a difference between

    today,

we move on to the rest of the podcast

So one thing I want to address before

    attention to you.

uniqueness, dare I say, people then pay

    bit of

a little bit of quirkiness, a little

if there's a little bit of silliness,

    engaged with your brand,

And when it comes to people being

    interest.

forth when it comes to relevance and

but they definitely swing back and

jokes, they're a little bit passe now,

And there is a reason why April Fool's

    attracting attention.

Or marketing your brand, it is about

    yourself.

it comes to advertising and marketing

because that is what it is about when

    giving you money,

paying attention to you and eventually

oh look at that, it's your next client

    equals connection. And connection is,

    playful equals personality. Personality

it is for your clients. And being

not meant for you or your industry,

tell you now that your personal brand is

going to take me seriously. I'm going to

wherever the hell, or my industry is not

to be taken seriously in hoity-toity,

    can't, I can't be silly, I'm not going

Zoe! I'm a serious business person! You

    to this may be screaming,

of people who are watching or listening

brand. Now yes, I understand that a lot

    throughout their reminding of your

and that silliness is going to travel

they're going to honestly remember you,

they're really going to be engaged,

chuckle, maybe even a from the nostril,

something to give them a little bit of a

something fun to look at, if you give them

seriously bored. And if you give them

are bored. People are bored. They are

they are, I'm going to say this now,

especially your customers, no matter who

you now, people in day-to-day life,

even a salesperson. I'm going to tell

be it billboards, posters, flyers, or

both online and in, in the real world,

    branding searches, however they interact

any social media, any online websites,

come across your brand, or engage with

for your marketing. Most people, when they

Why being childish can actually work

free to take a pun out of that one.

started into today's meaty subject. Feel

marketing on purpose. So let's get

childish in your branding and in your

imagine, we are talking about being

podcast, although 69, nice. So as you can

And now, it's no excuse to say nice on a

    personal branding, never!

What a thought! Me talking about

    personal brand.

on purpose, for the purpose of your

going to get a little childish

will not grow up. In this episode, we're

are all grown-ups. And no, I, myself,

other than my mentees, hi, mentees, um,

most of the people that I work with,

they were all grown-ups here, because

    non-serious person. I, I like to think

funny number, I, myself, am a funny,

for me. Yes, other than it being a

your love, and this is a big milestone

Thank you for all your comments and

    the Unboring Your Brand podcast.

sticking this long with us during

Yes. So thank you everyone for

    your applause. Oh, roses!

thank you. Oh, hold your applause, hold

Um, I bow, I bow. Thank you, thank you,

    thank you, thank you.

Yes, yes, yes. Congratulations. Thank you,

    Your Brand podcast.

Yes, this is episode 69 of the Unboring

elephant, it's more of a pink elephant.

in the room. Well, it's not exactly an

childish. Yes, let's address the elephant

we're going to be a little bit

    Brand podcast, where today

I promise! Welcome to the Unboring Your

    Haha! 69! Funny number! Haha!

    working...

    small business, if you are

Because ultimately if you are running a

    expert in your field.

use the knowledge that you have as an

to use the expertise and hopefully to

    need to go,

you've hired me for, to get to where you

    that's what I'm here for. That's what

    what they need to achieve,

when it comes to helping people achieve

Like that's my mean face. But

to do this. Let's do this.

being like, hi, you said we were going

probably me just messaging them and just

and a little bit mean, which is

Yes, if I need to be a little bit harsh

    outcome.

my goal is to get them to their desired

    with our clients,

with our podcast today. When when I work

going up and down, so I'll be right back

internet. So we've got a little bit of

Australia and we can't have proper

internet, because of course we live in

dealing with a couple of issues of

ad screen for a bit too long. We're just

and having you sit on that

Focus. Thank you. Apologies for the delay

Thank you everyone for your patience.

stand back and focus on cats.

kiss. And if that's not the case, then

on camera at least once, then best shift

work that you do, if you can get yourself

to be putting their trust in you and the

interacting with you and they're going

the case. But if people are going to be

need to get in front of the camera if that's

it's okay if that's not the case. You don't

working with at the end of the day? Because

help the people and help the cats that you're

you need to? And is it going to ultimately

for for purpose? Is it going to work with what

always going to be the case. So again, is it

in the voice. But necessarily that's not

we might be able to hear that you're crying

lens and worrying about crying because of course

having to worry about focusing on a camera

points in front of you to read off that a

and read off that or maybe even have dot

to be able to have a script in front of you

voiceovers. If voiceovers are easier for you

And as Cherry mentioned, she always does

And then if you need to, get back to filming.

Have a little cry. So take some time. Breathe.

to take a break, that's fine. Take a break.

who do the work that you do. But if you need

lucky to have people in the world like you

you do is definitely needed and that we are so

need to say cry because again, the work that

and get the message clear enough without the

that you're able to get the message through

able to feel comfortable in yourself enough

no such thing as negative emotions. But to be

the term negative emotions because there is

less chance of your... And again, I hate to use

and you can be comfortable in because there's

nice soft furnishing that you can sit down

lounge room or somewhere where there's a

it at home in, say, a home office or a

location that is more comfortable to use, be

start of the day, film your videos either in a

if you are someone who has more energy at the

You will have more energy. Say, for example,

to be able to keep your emotions in check.

energy in the day, that's always a good chance

before about filming when you have the highest

opportunity to take those breaks. As I mentioned

with pre-recorded videos and giving yourself an

going with live streams to go probably going

care of animals, I definitely recommend not

that are involved in animal welfare and the

especially emotions as gut wrenching, as ones

interactions. So when it comes to emotions,

to humans and doing the human's

one who they see ultimately when it comes

because they know that you are going to be the

    more comfortable interacting with you

answering the texts, then people feel a lot

picking up the phone, answering the messages,

going to be the one that is going to be

going to be like I mentioned before, you are

animals. But if you are, say for example,

welfare, people are going to be focused on the

of the time, especially when it comes to animal

be in front of the camera, because again, most

good way to go about it. And if you do need to

have the focus be on the cats is probably a

is definitely true, Lisa. Being able to just

on filming the cat sounds like one way. And that

do it. Stepping out of the shot and focusing

emotion when I speak about what I do and why I

crying. Any tips for controlling the rush of

I work in animal welfare and often end up

with is keeping my emotions in check on video.

Lisa asked the question, one thing I struggle

started with the funny harp podcast.

conditioning, cool down a bit. And we'll get

moment. So I'm gonna turn on the air

and maybe breathe and not cough at you for a

will definitely take this opportunity to rest

don't panic. We're still figuring things out. I

yet. We are trialing out this new product. So

Nothing seems to be blowing up in my face just

today's podcast, everything seems to be working.

information there. So as we get started with

dash Podcasters to find all the links and

just check it out at vcc.training slash Vic

find the details to jump onto that, or you can

check out the description below, where you can

So again, if you are interested, make sure to

whole bunch of people talking within those groups.

that series has been quite popular and gotten a

you don't need to make. So as you can imagine,

this week is more podcasting blunders that

podcasting mistakes you're probably making. And

common podcasting mistakes. So last week was oops,

podcasting, we are currently running a series on

weekly podcast to help you get good at

podcast side of things, which is a five minute

joining us over the past couple of weeks. On the

slowly growing. So I thank everyone who has been

email list, Facebook and LinkedIn groups, which are

Victorian Podcasters, we have, again, we have our

Podcasters, which is the program that I run for

podcast episodes to come up. And with Vic

I'll make sure to add them in my roster for

video marketing, please let them know below and

have any questions regarding personal branding or

it for my community for the better. So if you

that and how I best did that, how I best changed

you'll be interested to hear of how I dealt with

horror. I didn't even know that was possible. So

hateful and spiteful on the internet. Shock

getting the message and in turn being very

regarding a whole bunch of people not quite

story of something that I dealt with last year

a Sunday morning. And there's an interesting

week, we have a wall of hate comments at 3am on

Platform to rule them all. And as we go this

Brand podcast, we have last week, we had Piquant

events go. Upcoming on the Unborrowing Your

know, because I would love to hear how those

Melbourne Ones events, please comment and let me

Melbourne Ones. So if you attend any of the

there. I'm even looking to attend a couple of

you see me there, I will definitely see you out

person over the next couple of weeks. So again, if

Women's Network catch up both online and in

are. And we'll also be having another One Roof

probably the best, but we'll work with where you

email newsletter. Honestly, email newsletter is

you more information, those on my socials and my

area. So make sure that you keep posted as I give

locations throughout the Geelong and Wotherong

our opening. They are thriving in multiple

enough on some podcasting stuff. You didn't hear

I look forward to working with them again soon

volunteering on and off for the past 15 years. And

community that is a co-op that I have been

be hosted by Wotherong. So the Wotherong Co-op is a

April 2025 Connect for the Geelong Chamber, which will

we come up over this next week, we have both the

mayhem. So that was a couple of weeks ago. And as

around answering questions and running about causing

up. I'm on there. And you'll definitely see me

is both online and in person, feel free to hit me

a Australian women's business networking group, which

Roof group. So if you are part of One Roof, which is

me in person at the Geelong Coffee Meetup for the One

hospital visits and such, you probably would have met

surprisingly. Over this past couple of weeks, between

to give me a little bit of time to do that in

over this period of time. But you're going to need

on what I can do to best serve you and best help you

need to spend a little bit of time refocusing myself

really impact you or help you in any way. So I might

six new long term clients. But of course, that doesn't

open option. My main goal for this quarter is to secure

marketing strategies. And we're moving to a bit more of an

product, which helps people strategically plan their video

glowing grow session, which is our start of the year

record this live. And I've moved on from promoting my

second week of Q2. So it's the 11th of April as we

we've moved into quarter two officially. So we're on the

been a couple of weeks since we did the live stream. So

accomplished this past week. So as you can imagine, it's

guess. Why you stick? So getting on to what we've

who is joining us. Yeah, there we go. You're there, I

or pigeon pin that out of the way. So thank you everyone

right, we can just get the many clips I have in my hair,

little bit interesting at the moment, but that is all

digital thing, which I was gonna do anyway. Here's a

back. So I can then send that to people and send them to a

around the corners. And we've got a nice QR code on the

convinced me to get business cards. They look very pretty

firmly on my head now. So I'd like to thank everyone who

people to get business cards. So, okay, I think you're

much felt like a waste. But I was convinced by a fair few

I'm just sorry, I'm gonna have to fix things as I go very

that I wasn't going to use them. And very much felt like

off, mainly because it felt like I was going to waste them

have business cards. And to be honest, I kept putting it

when you're not working in a small town, it's very helpful to

thank all of see when it comes to networking in person or

is joining us here on the live stream today. I'd like to

move that over to business. So again, thank you everyone who

way, you'll be very familiar with Yes Ending. So I like to

of you of those of you who have dealt with improv in any

better ideas and less drama, using a drama technique for any

record today is Yes Ending in Business, the secret source to

mode. And my other podcast episode that we're going to

podcasts. I get to episode 69, I know I'm already in cruising

numbers that I like strive to reach when it comes to my

proud of reaching that number. Honestly, that's one of the

Your Brand podcast, as you can probably imagine, I'm very

episodes called. So episode 69 of the podcast, the Unborrowing

childish in your marketing. That's what that's what the

episodes, specifically, episode 69. Funny number, being

get to it today, we're going to be recording two podcast

need to take a little bit of a break on that one. But as we

as rigorous as I usually do. So my apologies, I'm going to

couple of weeks, I've been a bit sick, so I haven't done

their questions. So but as you can imagine, over these last

this live stream and send it to them as a way of answering

don't miss anyone and also take this opportunity to clip

all be educated. And that gives me a chance to make sure that I

answering these questions in a public forum so that we can

video marketing, or marketing in general. And I help people by

private questions that I've had regarding personal branding,

a week to be able to answer any public questions or any even

be recording. So I usually take this live stream opportunity once

to be touching on two podcast episodes that we are going to

And as we move on to today's live stream, today we are going

learned. Well, I know how to do it for other people, but now

future, because I have learned to do it. And therefore I have

time. And I'm looking to get Facebook and others in the

live on LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitch and Facebook at the same

is we are now live on YouTube. We're live online. We're on

priorities as I recovered. But in the meantime, what I have done

have gone by the wayside. So I needed to put those over

weeks. I have been very, very sick. And in turn, a lot of things
